A motion was brought forward by John McDowell and seconded by Richard Small that provisions be made at once for the starting of the new church.   Mr. Westrup was appointed as building director, with power to appoint the chairman and add to the committee.

.

As we read history of establishing of churches throughout the various sections of our provinces we are filled with intense interest as to how God has lead individuals and through them   communities.

The erecting and establishing of the Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour also has an interesting side, but we have not space to narrate here, Suffice to say that for years previous to the summer of 1918 all the services of public worship were held by the Baptist people in the Cambelite or Christian Church in Blacks Harbour.   During the summer of 1918 it became unsatisfactory and inconvenient for the Baptist people to worship in the Christian Church and after much discussion of plans and costs of erecting, they moved out under the wise leadership of Rev.. E.B. McLatchy, to erect   and establish a United Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour.   The Rev. E. B. McLatchy purchased a lot of land   75 X 100 ft. from Mrs. Jarvis Johnson for which he paid the sum of $100.00   This lot of land is located directly opposite the Connors Bros. grocery store and clothing store.

The first business meeting, in the interest of the erecting of the said Baptist Church, was held on June 25th 1918 and the following building committee appointed: John McDowell, Victor Bradford, John Justason, George Justason Jr. George Justason Sr., and John Perry.

Mr. John McDowell was appointed chairman, John Perry secretary, treasurer and   collector.

They voted the size of the building would be 25ft wide, 45 ft long with a 14ft corner post.   Two days later the work started under the direction of John McDowell.
Miss Blanche McDowell was our most earnest and successful assistant, collecting in one afternoon and evening the sum of $300.00.   There were many discouraging barriers to surmount but we finally succeeded and opened the Church for public worship about the 1st of October 1919, the Church being dedicated Oct, 26th 1919.

On the day of the dedication four ordained ministers were present, Rev. C.P. Wilson, who was the Pastor,   Rev. E.B. McLatchy, Rev. J.B. Ganong, representative of the Home Mission Board from whom we obtained the sum of $500.00 to help in the building the church,   and Rev. B.F. DeWolfe.   Rev. McLatchy presided and was also chief speaker for the occasion,   The interest was good and they obtained large free-will offerings at the sessions during the day.

We have not an account to show for all the money received and spent only to the extent of having received $4134.97 and having spent $4047.68.   However we received sufficient to finish the church and place it out of debt.

The Home Mission Board gave us $500.00 and the deed of this United Baptist Church of Blacks Harbour, Charlotte County, N.B. was given to this Board and they still hold it Sept. 1, 1925.           Rev. Gordon Stanley Beckett.
